RF attenuators are used in different stages of the thermal dilution refrigerator, reducing the thermal noise in the signal. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) increases due to the RF lines within each layer, requiring the attenuator for the thermalized layer to protect the signal level. Radiall cryogenic switches function at extremely low temperatures (-273°C) and actuate at low power.
